Kundalini Yoga is the most powerful and effective form of yoga.  It stimulates optimal health and a radiant sense of well being with simple yogic techniques that can be practiced by anyone.  Positive effects can be noticed almost right away.   Kundalini Yoga helps to bring the energies of your brain, nervous system and glandular system into balance, in order for you to function at a consistently higher level, without exhausting your mind and body.  When the body and mind are at ease, inspiration flows freely and peace of mind is realized.

Until recent years, Kundalini Yoga was the exclusive and secretive domain of yogis in the far-off Himalayas.  In 1968, Yogi Bhajan (1929-2004) came to the West and began to teach this powerful, health-giving science openly.  He founded the International Kundalini Yoga Teachers Association (IKYTA) and 3HO to spread and to serve these teachings.  Nowadays, through the efforts of teachers of the International Kundalini Yoga Teachers Association, Kundalini Yoga is practiced by tens of thousands of people in over 68 countries, making IKYTA one of the largest yoga teaching organizations in the world.

Kundalini Yoga classes incorporate the postures of Hatha Yoga with breath, meditation and chanting.   It is through these practices that the coiled Kundalini energy at the base of the spine is raised up through the energy centers.   As this energy is raised, transformation takes place.  Yoga means to "Yoke" or "Unite" allowing the student of yoga to unite with their higher self, infinite self.

Kundalini Yoga creates energetic transformation within students, making it a very healing yoga.  It stimulates the glandular system and repairs the nervous system, in today's world, many people feel the effects of stress on a daily basis and this wears down the body over time.  Spending a few moments a day doing Kundalini Yoga can restore these systems allowing your body to move back into harmony and balance.  Your ability to face life's challenges with grace and calm will grow as your practice grows.

Mantra through chanting is very powerful, most of the chants in Kundalini Yoga are in the language of Gurumuki.  Yogi Bhajan "prescribed" these mantras to provide physical and emotional healing.   Music is an integral part of Kundalini Yoga, the sound current or Naad flows through your entire being thus changing your vibration.  This promotes healing on many levels, and the music and melodies are absolutely entrancing, as is the beautiful Gong in the studio.

The techniques used in class can be used at any time in daily life.  Breath techniques can be used to sooth frazzled nerves at work or release tension in a traffic jam or simply calm you after a long day.   Various exercises from the Kriyas can also be used at any time, in your car, your home or anywhere you choose to take a few moments to reconnect with yourself.

Kundalini Yoga is not about holding the perfect posture, each student is encourage to move at their own pace.   Each student finds their own strengths in their own time and gradually strengthens what they may perceive as their weakness.   Kundalini Yoga builds a healthy physical body, some Kriyas can be very challenging, the rewards of moving beyond these challenges is immeasurable!  Yogi Bhajan always said "Keep up, and you will be kept up".   Your teacher is always there to support you, encourage you and provide you with tools to break through blocks and limitations.   If you have physical limitations, let your teacher know so that modifications can be made, ensuring your safety and comfort.
